The 2nd Clearwater Legend’s Ball

Shahara Anderson, Director, Mary Brown, School Board Member, Gypsy Gallardo, Power Broker Magazine Edi-tor, Mayme Hodges, Former Commissioner and Commissioner Kenneth Welch were among the list of the hon-orees for the Second Annual, Black & White, Clearwater Legend’s Ball. Pow-erful Young Adults Inc. sponsored this fundraising event on October 27. This event was held at the Father Conmy Center, Dunedin. This event was to raise money for the 2008 Summer Youth Empowerment Camp .

Every detail from the beautiful center pieces, which were decorated by Shirley Collins, to the fine catering by Banquet Master’s II and Publix Supermarket which made the night more memorable.

The evening was filled with fun and excitement. The On’que Players, di-rected by Mr. Albert Chisolm, played throughout the evening. It was great hearing the cool old sounds of Barry White and new R&B hits . Their upbeat music and soulful lyrics kept the enter-tainment moving.

Marva McWhite, Mistress of Cere-mony, served graciously through the evening.

The Department of Education, Re-gional Director for Public Rela-tions ,Glenton Gilzean was a surprise guest for the two educators. Mr. Gil-zean had the pleasure of announcing Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Hodges.

Mrs. Hodges was also recognized for outstanding achievements by the local AKA Sorority. Her Sorer, Alma Bridges, presented her with a beautiful bouquet of pink roses.

As the evening continued, Ms. Anderson was introduced by the Pinellas County Urban League Director, Lendel Bright. Mr. Gilzean also recognized Sha-hara as being one of his outstanding Mentors. Pinellas County School, Reading Coach ,

Shirley Scott eloquently introduced Commissioner Welch and accepted the award for Ms. Gallardo.

Ashley Gammon, PYA Member re-ceived the Award of Excellence , for the second year in a row, from Mr. Ru-dolph Wesley III. She also received a one hundred dollar cashier’s check, for her academic achievement.

Dr. Charles L. Kennedy, Pastor , Glorious Church of God in Tampa, gave a powerful speech. His message to the youth was, "Focus."
